T-5 swap - speedo problem

Had the 700R4 to T-5 swap done, but the speedo doesn't work. It was a non-world class T-5 - numbers showed an 83 tranny when I looked it up. My speedo is cable driven, but apparently the T-5 is set up for electronic? I guess there is a box that can be put in between to make the conversion, but it's like $350 or something. Suggestions? Thanks for any help!

I don't think thats correct. I think that all non W/C were cable. And I'm positive that a 83 T5 was cable. What is the speedo doing or not doing?

Re: T-5 swap - speedo problem

well, that's what I would think, but my mechanic that did the swap originally said he couldn't make the connection, needed a speedo gear/cable operated speed sensor. It currently is not connected. Then he said it was a connection from cable to electronic, said he talked to someone who recommended this box to make the conversion. Talked to Bruce Hawkins at ThirdGen - he asked what color gear, etc. he could try to help me out & find something. I bought the T-5 from a member, same guy who I bought the IROC from. He said the T-5 came from a 1LE. But Bruce seemed sure the 1LE's didn't come with T-5s. The guy who sold me the tranny said all 1LEs came with T-5s. The gear/housing from the 700R4 is too big for the T-5(red gear). I called a speedo guy selling 145MPH speedos with Z28 logos on Ebay - has a speedo shop - he told me I needed to find out what car the T-5 came from. Told me to look online at ISSPRO - but they're a diesel website. Thanks for the response and any help. John

We're going to need a picture of the area in which the supposed speed sensor hooks up. I know that 83's were not electronic. Sounds like whomever sold you the tranny didn't know what he he was selling.

Hum, Camaros were cable driven from 82-89; however, 'Birds were electronic, IIRC, starting in 86, so the tranny could be set-up for the electronic version. That shouldn't prevent you from installing a cable. Remove old parts, insert new. Check the following sticky:
