will a t56 hold 500hp

Engine: 400 sbc 403 olds
Transmission: th350 th400
Axle/Gears: 308 373
will a t56 hold 500hp

i have a 400sbc with alot of power and i am weary of the t56 will a stock one hold or should i go aftermarket?

they are rated in torque, 450ft/lbs, so you are borderline. It also has a lot to do with traction.

exactly, street or track car matters, if its seeing 5K clutch dumps on slicks it might not like it too much

Upgrade it with the Viper-spec parts, and you should be good to quite a bit more than 500hp. Lots of the LS1 guys do some aftermarket Viper-spec upgrades (billet shift forks, bigger mainshaft, stainless or carbon fibre synchros, and some other stuff) and those trans' have been good into the 7-second range. I know two guys locally who use T56s prepped that way, and one is making 500-550hp before nitrous with his LS1.

The factory rating is conservative. It is a production piece so it is possible to have one that has a flawed part, but many people have had no problems with a factory T-56 going into the 500 ft-lb range.

my 400 has 539hp, there was a guy selling a viper modified t56 on here no to long ago i guess ill go that way. tgo guys rock thanks

my stock t56 is holding 620whp and 550ftlbs but im easy on it for now
