Problem with clutch....

Hi,

I have a 92 firebird v6 5 speed.

So here is my problem.. just wondering if anyone here has any advice... before I take er to the transmission shop.

I noticed a week ago my tranny/clutch was making a scratching/rattling sound when I shifted into gear... This would happen when I would engage the clutch and put it into gear.... once the car was in gear and the clutch let out it would drive fine no problems.... also I cannot put it into reverse unless I put it into a forward gear then switch into reverse.

I thought it was the hydraulic clutch assembly that was not working... so I pulled it out and found it to be cracked & leaking fluid... I replaced it this afternoon... and still the same sound/scenario.

Could it be a warped bearing somewhere on the driveshaft?

I have not checked the transmission fluid yet.. tho I do not think that is the problem.

Does anyone have any suggestions? or has experienced similar problems?

sorry but,

Its a good idea to hit a gear before going into reverse anyway, reverse is not synchronized, so it it will cause grinding sometimes. Sounds like a clutch problem to me, but im no expert

piolet bearing you would know because it would be constant. Through out bearing is the likly culprit because it isn't turning when you have your foot off the clutch. Its a cheap fix if you are doing it. very easy to replace

I agree, I just pop from first to reverse.

Re: Problem with clutch....

I should mention it is hard to shift it into a forward gear as well sometimes... This seems to come and go though... I drove the car to work this morning and did not experience any trouble.
