When I did my 350 swap the same thing happened to me. I have no idea how, but my 3rd and 4th clutches got burned up. It would be fine from 1st to 2cd, but if I let of and tried to cruise it would only rev the engine like it was in nuetral. I might have over filled the tranny, but I'm not positive.

I also had that happen... I changed the fluid in a "panic" (It had been almost 2 years since I changed it, when I usually did it every year), and two days later, all I had was 1st.

I have had the same thing happen to me. I had it rebuilt and it still did it. Then they found the problem and fixed it. My clutches burnt out that control the downshift from OD to 3rd and OD to 2nd and the one that controls the shift from 2nd to 3rd. Now my car is back in the shop because the Overdrive Sprag broke. I am fixing to post about that as a matter of fact. Anyways sounds like a clutch problem.

Cobra Killer, your 3-4 Clutches are smoked. They were probably on there last leg, and the swap was the straw that broke the camels back, or just poor timing, you be the judge.

IrocManiac, I know it isn't your fault, but everything you just said made no sense whatsoever. There are no clutches that control downshifts. If you want to learn about which clutches do what, go to my website in the sig and go to tech. I did an article on how to read a Clutch and Band application chart. I hope that will help. Also, there is no such thing as an "overdrive sprag". There is a foward sprag, and a low roller clutch. A bad foward sprag will cause no movement in OD, but there is no OD sprag. Overdrive is achieved simply, well, check out the chart.

Sorry GMtech. Glad you were hear. I know a lot about motors and am trying to get used to this whole tranny thing. I am doing my best to learn but it is very complicated. That is what I was told was in those tranny's obviously I was wrong. Thanks for the correction.
