Just installed my Turbine Technologies torque converter

Hey, I just finished my TC swap. I moved up from a 2000 stall Summit converter to a 2500 stall lockup converter from Turbine Technologies. All I can say is Wheeee!

Around town, it's just like my old converter, but when you hammer it from 20 MPH, it's like the car grows two cylinders! The engine blasts to 4000 RPM, and the tires pull pieces of pavement off the asphalt as you exhilirate!

From a standstill, the car still doesn't break traction (Full Spohn suspension), but it gets into the powerband a whole lot faster. When cruising or using light throttle, you cannot tell it has a higher stall speed! It's still responsive, with crisp shifts, and no feeling of "slippage" that the trans shop warned me about.

Overall, I'm pleased with my "under $200" performance converter!

Where did you purchase this from? Do you have a 700R4? And what kind of engine/mods. I am looking for a good priced converter as we speak. Let me know ASAP. Thanks!

I got it from Tom McCabe at Turbine Technologies. You can reach him by emailing him at transstuff@aol.com

He's been cutting some really good deals lately, and swears that their quality is as good as a TCI or B&M. All I know is that I used to have a 2000 RPM shudder from my $300 B&M 2000 stall converter, and the new TT has made the shudder disappear.

Tell me... was the jump in stall from 2000 to 2500 stall worth the money? I've got an aftermarket 2000 stall converter right now. It sounds like the 2500 stall converter you got has a higher torque multiplication factor than your old one. Did it soften your shift points at all? I am gonna have the tranny out this winter to replace a cracked flexplate, and I may go with a higher stall converter, since I didn't feel all that much difference with the 2000 stall vs the stock 1654 converter.

What do you mean by full Spohn suspension? Exactly what do you have? I've got alot of traction problems and i'm looking at some of his stuff. But i dont' know what to get that will make the most difference. Thanks

On the 2000 versus 2500 RPM stall speed: I didn't notice any difference to around-town driving. The shifts occurred as before, and felt the same. The difference was when the engine began making torque: Once I got to over 3000 RPM, the car accelerated hard. That's not to say that there isn't any difference, as there is: It's most evident at 3/4 throttle and up. I'm thinking that the heads/cam combo that I have chosen just plain leave me with little low-end torque. Probably similar problem to the old DZ engines of yesteryear. The most dramatic actions occur from a rolling start;
The engine downshifts to first, gets right into the powerband, digs in, and shoots you like an arrow. Quite fun and addictive!

FWIW, I have reviewed the video, and there is very little tire spin. I used Richmond 3.73 gears on a Torsen heavy-duty differential, Moser 28-spline axles, Goodyear Comp TA ZR tires (245-50-16 I believe)and Steve Spohn's adjustable suspension.

I have Spohn's adjustable torque arm, his aircraft-quality(AQ) rod ended panhard rod, and a hybrid LCA with a poly mount on one end, and an AQ rod end on the other. The torque arm is adjusted for -2 degrees. If I was to choose one single piece over the others, I'd probably start with the lower control arms first, panhard rod second, and the torque arm third.

My best times have decreased from a 14.400 at 98.6 MPH to a 14.039 at 100.82MPH, as set at Stanton Dragway (Mid-Michigan Motorplex) on Saturday. I piled up 16 timeslips between 10 AM and 2:30 PM !

Like I said, I found this converter to be well worthwhile with (so far) no disadvantages! I still got 20 MPG on the way back home.

With this converter you dropped 4 tenths off your previous time with the 2000 stall?
