T56 Hydraulic question

I called several dealers in the area today to see about getting a hydraulic kit (its my understanding that it's all one sealed unit-master cylinder, slave cylinder and res.) for the T56 I am getting ready to install and came across a problem.
Apparently there are two different types. SERIES I & SERIES II..... Gm part numbers respectivly are: 12557509 & 12559912. Everytime I called a dealer the question was asked: "Which series do you have? There should be a tag on the lines with a number" and I followed with "well, can you tell me the difference between the two?" followed by a "nope". Supposedly the part numbers for the clutch, pressure plate, and throwout bearing are all the same for at least a 94, 95 , and 96 Camaro and Firebird.

Does anyone have any clue as to what the difference is between these two part numbers? Size of master cylinder? slave cylinder?.......I really am not interested in messing up the clutch or something by not having the right part.

TIA

since you are doing a custom install you can pick either one. I took which ever one they had in stock.

I did the same. The only difference would be in the master and slave cylinder piston diameters. I just measured the T5 and T56 slave cylinder piston diameters (don't remember which series I have), and they are both 1.000" exactly. I wouldn't sweat it. Worst case is that you get too much or too little throw, but the diameter changes (if any) would be miniscule. I doubt it would make much, if any difference.

Jeffro,
Apparently there is a huge difference in designs between the Series I and Series II on the 4th gens.
Series I uses an external slave cylinder and Series II uses an internal slave cylinder.

just for future reference. :-)

external or internal? not sure I understand. The one I got was a bolt on piece that went to the trans with a push rod, a steel-braided cable that went to the part that bolts to the firewall with a rod that went to the pedals. then it had a remote resivor on a ruber tube... WHat is the difference in the other one?

ALL 93-97 T-56's utilizes EXTERNAL slave cylinder setups. The 98-up LS-1 T-56's, and the 93-up V-6 M-49 (5-speed,) ALL utilize INTERNAL slave cylinders. Just tell the parts guy that you want the assembly for the 93-97, and you can't go wrong, like Andris said. HTHs

That's just it, when I told the guy at the parts counter that I need a setup for a V8 LT1 M6 I was asked which series do I need. he couldn't tell me the difference, nor several other dealerships around the area.
It's ok though. I got what I was looking for this afternoon.
