On the connector? It doesn't matter, as far as I know. The output is an AC sine wave, so either way should be fine.

What colors are the two wires coming from the VSS? I did this same thing and had to figure it out. I just can't remember the colors of the wires. If you refresh my memory I may be able to tell you. For some reason I am thinking that one of the wires is purple(ground) and one is yelow. I'm not sure though.

Kinda off the subject, but what kinda speedo are you plumbing in? What's a Cable X?? I've been trying to figure out for months what kinda speedo to get and how to plumb it in without my SES light coming on from the VSS code.

Any help would be appreciated.

Go to this sit and look under products for Cable X http://www.abbott-tach.com
The Cable X will convert your VSS signal from the T56 to mechanical, so you will be able to use your mechanical speedo with it.
What's good about it is that inside the box there is some dip switch that you set depending what gears you are using and what are the tires diameter,so if you change your gears later on the speedo is easy to calibrate that way.
BTW I installed the box under the dash near my ECM and ran the supplied cable under the dash and got ride of the old one.
Hope this help!!!!!
