Tranny slipping when trying to pass.

This isn't for my f-body,but for my dad's truck. It is still a Chevy,of course. Anyway. He says that when he goes to pass another vehicle or just stomps on it,the tranny slips. The engine will rev and stay at a certain rpm for a couple seconds until the tranny finally catches. The fluid is full. Also, when he first starts off,he mentioned something about the tranny slipping in first gear once the truck reches normal oper temps.Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Oh yeah. It's a 97 1500 pick-up 350 w/auto.

Tell him the next time it does that to drop it down in Manual Third (D) and see if it still does that. Ask him if it starts to pull or still slips.

If its a 97, shouldn't still be under warranty?

Hell no! Don't be fooled. The warranty starts the day it was sold, and many '97s were sold in '96. Or if it was sold in '97 anything before Oct 24, 1997 is now out of warranty. Also consider the milage. Anything above 36,000 miles is out of warranty. I work on several '99s and '00 that are no longer under warranty. There are actually very few '97s that are still under the factory warranty.
