rear swap.... Do i need a spring compressor.

i am planing a junkyard rear swap. i know that it should just bolt right in but what about the springs? do i need a spring compressor to get them off? Also is there a way to take off my original drums and put them on the new rearend so i dont have to bleed the brakes (I just got a brake job like 2 weeks ago). If anyone has a tech article on rear end swap i would be great. well thanx for the help
later,
ross

no, you don't need a ring compressor. just rest the car on stands, jack up the rear end, unbolt all the bolts, and lower the rear end and the springs will pop right out. Just be carefull, use a lot of safety precautions. Don't know about the brakes though. And yes, there is a tech article on this in the tech section.

you should be able to unbolt the backing plates if you don't want to bleed the brakes.

In fact that might be a better way to go (re-using your original brakes), since at least you know the operating condition of them.
