manual 700r4

i am looking to upgrade to a manual valve body when i rebuild my tranny this winter. does anyone know what kits are good or where i can go for some good honest advice. i don't have tons of power so the crisper the shift the better it will be for me.

thanks
tim

I'd check with a company called Fairbanks Transmissions. They make high quality race tranny's and valve body upgrade kits. My friend has one in his 86 cutlass and it's awesome. I know TCI makes one for the 700...its in Jeg's...I'm not sure about quality or performance though.....i see your from trenton so you probably now were cottman is on olden ave..they can get the Fairbanks Racing kits and trannys for you....have you been to marrazzo's on sat. nights before?...the black RS?....

TCI make one but I believe it freewheels under decelleration. Transgo also have one but I have heard that if you take off accidentaly in third gear you can trash the trans.

I have a fully manual competition 700R-4 by TCI. Be carefull! These trannys and valve bodies have zero engine braking except in fourth and in my opinion the shift lag sucks, it is about 250 rpm. My old tranny would catch rubber in third but my TCI won't.

I have the TCI manual valve body and love it. Don't have the shift lag problem Camaromike mentioned. When I shift it shifts with a hard chirp of the tires. Beware, as Camaromike stated, there isn't any engine braking.
