Does the TV cable control kickdown on the 700R4?
And if so, how can you adjust it, other than just setting the TV cable?

Yes.
There's a tech article on this site, I think.

Some. Thanks. I've seen the one about setting the TV cable before. Anyway, both are very informative.
I guess what I'm trying to find out is exactly what controls kickdown/downshifting, and what can I do to alter mine?

its the governer inside the trans, the most i run mine up to is 6k before shifting, 5.5k seems to be the sweet spot for me, but thats when i rachet the gears, if i let it do it by itself its around 4.7k

The governor controls when/how the tranny downsifts? If so, can those shifts be adjusted like upshifts would?

i dont go that far into trans, i dont like them that much...... i had mine built to my specs, told him what i wanted in it.....im sure someone out here can help you better on how governor exactly works
Re: Does the TV cable control kickdown on the 700R4?
Since the TV cable has only one "correct" setting, if you're not happy with your shift points, it's time to look into a shift kit and possibly a governor recalibration kit. TransGo makes the best shift kits for the 700r4. Stay away from B&M's products when it comes to a 700r4. In fact, most TransGo shift kits even include different weights/springs for recalibrating the governor too. The Corvette 1-2 shift servo is also highly recommended for making your shifts quicker and firmer. Talk to Dana at Pro-Built Automatics. He carries all the stuff you need, and his tech advice can't be beat. He'll help you out every step of the way.
