Which Posi Unit?

Hi guys. I am wanting to get a posi (I hate spinning one wheel) and was wondering what to get. Everyone has told me something different. I have 3.73's on a 2 series carrier. I was told that I need the one for the 2 series and then someone elso told me that I need the 3 carrier one. It is the original 7.5 10 bolt. I am guessing that it will give me better times since the wheels will be getting better traction. Thanks for any help that you can give me.

Eric

I was shocked to see that companies sold a taillight
set for a rustang! Since when do they have taillights????

Since you already have gears for a 2-series carrier, and assuming you want to keep them, you need a posi carrier for 2-series gears, assuming you want to replace the entire carrier.

The simplier solution would be to get a PowerTrax unit, which can be installed without any special tools. The carrier doesn't come out, so no special setup is required to put it back in. All you need to know is how many splines your axles have, which being a '91, should be 28.

Thanks for the info! If the power trax doesn't need any special tools, then how does it install? Is it something that I can do, or is it like setting gears? I WOULD like to keep the 3.73's that I have for the 2 series carrier. Thanks.

you could also buy the Zexel Torsion unit takeoff from SLP for $99 and it should work. I know it requires the 28 spline axles which you already have. These units are used in the 93+ f-body cars.

Pull the rear cover, remove the spider gear shaft retaining bolt, remove spiders, remove clips from axles, pull axles out of the side gears and remove gears. Install PowerTrax in place of spiders per instructions, put cover back on, fill with gear lube. You don't disturb the carrier, and therefore don't disturb the gear spacing.

badbird88, the SLP take-offs are 3-series, and therefore won't work with his 2-series gears. Would also require shop setup, even if the gears did work.

I second the Powertrax. I installed my locker in a little over an hour with no experience on rear ends ever. Just follow the very comprehensive directions they give you.
FYI - For the first 200 miles or so the rear will sound like a roller coaster being pulled up a hill when you go around a turn(pretty loud), but it becomes almost undetectable after about 500
