Transmissions and Drivetrain Need help with your trans? Problems with your axle?

Anyway a 700r4 would hold up to 580hp/500tq + an occasional 250 NOS shot?

I really want to keep overdrive and the 3.06 first gear but my "Pro Street" mechanic said he has been through 3 in 5000 miles in his '95 Z28 (600+ FWHP) and I would be better off just going w/ a th400. Have any of ya'll had a 700 that has held up to the abuse of high hp/tq? If so where did you get it?

There are no 700R4's that will take that kind of horsepower for long if at all! I talk to many people around the coutry & have found this to be true no matter what the claims of the trans builders. There are some 2004R's that are currently running mid nines in Buick Gran Nationals. I know of one transmission builder in Mogadore Ohio that has apx. ten 2004R's in the mid to high nines in GN's. I know of a couple of nine second 700R4's, both of these are in lighter cars. If you want to proceed with going to a 2004R, give me a call and I will answer any questions you have?
Glad Too Help!!!

get a 4L80E if you ABSOLUTLY must have overdrive. Otherwise anything short of a TH400 will be a headache
