Can't get out of park.

I tried to leave a friends house last night, and when I tried to shift out of gear, it kind of stuck a little then snapped. Then it would just flop around instead of actually engaging a gear. Sometimes it'd stick in place but it definately wasn't shifting. I haven't had a chance to look at it yet, but what am I going to be looking for? And does any one have pictures?
BTW, it's a stock 700r4

Also, would replacing the shifter with one of those B&M mega shifters probably fix it? Or is there something better then the B&M?

Check for a snapped/broken shifter cable first. Your shifter would still catch in the detents (PRNDL) but the trans would not be shifted.

On my first trans fluid change, I didn't tighten the bolts that held the shift linkage to the pan... luckily they both fell out in my driveway.

A B&M megashifter would fix it, but so would RPO-B4Z's idea, and it'd be cheaper.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's the cable. I pulled my console apart, nothing odd there except I found a little plastic gear with a disk on one side of it. Anyone know what that thing might be? I'll try and get a picture up soon.

But it doesn't seem to catch in revers or neutral. But OD, D, 2, and 1 it does. It really sticks hard in 1. Doesn't want to come out. Same with P. But nothing is happening with the tranny when I move the shifter so I'm pretty sure the cable is at least 80% of the problem.

i had the same problem. The B&M shifter will fix it, but that's only cause you would be putting a new cable on it. If you want to stay cheap, just get a new cable for your stock shifter.
