Re: trany ?
well the computer controls the converter lock up and line pressures in the 4L60 so if you put the 700 in the computer isn't likely to be happy about it. Internally they're more or less the same but to have a working lockup you would have to install a manual switch, then get a VSS for the 700 so you would have a read for the speedo and a speed input for the computer. So long story short if it's a bad idea to try and put that 700 in your 4th gen. In the end I wouldn't be surprised if you spent almost as much money getting the 700 setup in the car as it would to take the tranny to a rebuilder.

Re: trany ?
ok so i went to get a price on a rebuild. 1500 and thats with the trany out of the car and me putting it in and no touqrconverter. and i just cant put in a stock trany cuz the car has over 10000 dollars of add ons and motor work done to the car. so i priced around not much cheaper at anyother place i went to and two of the places said its not just my trany but my computer to. one person said a chip would fix that problem and that coast about 400 just for the chip. and a short time later my trany went to hell i lost 2 3 and 4th so now my 4500 dollar car ant so hot anymore and i am a little pissed that i could cost my over 2000 to get it back on the road. so please help.

Re: trany ?
130000 miles on the car and the trany thats in the car has been rebuilt several times by the past owner. motor work well full slp loud mouth exsost, injecters, pistons, programed, rear end work, cold air intake thats just the stuff off the top of my head. i havent done anything to the motor my self this is all stuff the past owner put on it and he builds drag cars and he owns his own machean shop. there is $10000 worth of reseats in the glove box to show most of the work done to the car

Re: tranny question
So were the motor and tranny already rebuilt? Does it have the stock head and cam package..... from what you have on that list it looks like the motor needed a rebuild and he might have put in some higher compression piston and done some normal bolt ons too. Also the rear axles in those cars aren't known for their longevity so that needing a rebuild it's too surprising even for a stock vehicle with that milage on it, if some track use or hard driving has been done. Anyway if the motor is more or less stock(head and cam package) a stock rebuilt tranny should be ok. I would just use the basic monster kit.

Re: tranny question
Sorry I wasn't trying to imply that there would be any need to rebuild the motor again. I was just trying to get a better picture as to what exactly has been done to the car already. The best thing to do would be to fing out exactly what was replaced in the tranny and whether the engine needed a rebuild and the tranny was refreshed or vic versa. But if the motor has a stock head and cam package and will stay that way a basic rebuild should be ok provided the hard parts and components not included in the class were alright. If I remember correctly the line pressure and shift points are whats dictated by the ECM so if it's slipping all around it could be an issue. I would find out exactly what was done on the rebuild and go from there.

Re: tranny question
well the guy gave me some of the receipts and one was for a transmission overhaul kit, torque converter and trans fluid. description of what had been done to the trany "r&r transmission, disassemble and inspect, rebuild transmission, replace torque converter, hot flush trans cooler, test drive and adjust as needed, and install z pack update" one year warranty ended in 4/26/07 and this was all done to the car at 111850 miles on the car. at american auto transmission on 1744 s ashland ave greenbay wi 54304

Re: tranny question
Seems like there was a full rebuild done so you shouldn't have a failure unless the car has been severely abused. What are the symptoms exactly?

Re: tranny question
ok i bit the bullet and had my trany rebuilt new torqr converter and a shift kit installed. well now the car moves but the problem is still there so i am now thinking it might be my computer. i found a web sight https://www.700r4l60e.com/store/home.php?cat=64 and this is what it says ""This Street/Strip (Full Manual) Shift kit allows you to select the firmness you desire, and you can hold any gear to any rpm, or backshift to any gear. Comes with vacuum modulator. For transplant or use with no electrical (computer). This kit is matched to your particular motor, torque converter, rear end gear ratio, etc., and how you drive. So when ordering, make sure you fill out the questionaire, so that I can match this kit to your particular vehicle & driving requirements. This "modified" Shift kit offers additional information, eight Torlon checkballs to replace the steel checkballs that damage the valve body separator plate, valve body gaskets, Viton D-rings for the Corvette servo, and EPC solenoid filter. This kit allows you to hold any gear to any rpm, or backshift to any gear. 10" or smaller torque converter recommended here for the best results. LS1''s & 1994-1996 Impala''s already have the Corvette servo. If you do not already have the Corvette servo, I would add one now, or the Sonnax 1-2 servo. See LS1-4L60E Upgrades for this."" they are asking about $200 for it and i was wondering if this could fix my problem
