I remember hearing somewhere, probably on these boards, that you can swap a torque converter from a v6 s10 into your car in place of the stock one. The reason being is it has a higher stall ratio but I want this verified before I go out and do it. Also, can it handle the same horsepower/torque?

A 4.3 S-series converter will stall higher behind a V8.

Not much, but definately an inexpensive trick.

dont bother with the s-10 converter they are fine for all motor v6 guys and stall pretty damn high behind a v6.
i broke 5 of those stock s-10 units behind my old 2.8L v6 with a turbo running 7psi. which prolly made the same power as a stock 350tpi motor

First off a 4.3 torque converter is not going to bolt to a 2.8, nor will it fit inside the bellhousing of a 60* V6 transmission. I've run a 4.3 S10 converter behind a modified 350 Vortec in an Express van.

Hmm... thanks guys this is a lot of good info. It sounds kind of iffy though if they will be able to put up with my abuse. I think I might look on ebay and try one of the stall converters on there. Anybody heard anything about those?
