I use to own a 86 2.5 camaro with a 5speed
and it made that car pretty fun to drive
i know own a 89 trans am with a 700r4
and have been thinking about either
doing a rebuild with the extra clutch packs
to replace the spacer and the corvette servo
or getting a kit for about 1000 dollars
of used parts to switch over to a t5
it seems that the manuals are useally
favored for the performance cars but it
also seems that the automatic transmission
is a more exspensive option? wich is
better for performance ?

Depends on what you use the car for. Automatics are better for drag racing, but to really go fast, you'll need a higher than stock rpm stall convertor. On the streets, the 5 speed is a lot of fun, and usually showroom stock cars are quicker w/ manuals than the same engine car w/ automatic. i prefer auto,myself, but you are limited to the stall speed on the street, and still be an ecomical driver. If you go manual, with any power, expect to replace clutches, tires, and rearends much more often, because the hard shifts are harder on the drivetrain. If I had that decision to make, I'd go auto JMHO.
