Anybody install a tranny temp guage from autometer ?

I bought one, and installed it on the pillar, and ran the wires and stuff, but here's where im confused. Does the temp sender (little brass fitting) actually screw into the tranny somewhere, or does it have to be welded to the pan ?

The temp sender should be installed inline in the tranny cooler lines. Don't weld it to the pan, and don't punch a hole in the pan for it, there is no clearance inside for the sender against the valve body.

You could thread an adapter into one of the pressure ports (1/8 NPT plug) and then run the temp probe into it that way. The easiest way is to install it in the cooler lines. You can buy a "Y" block that will tap into the lines and the sender can then be screwed into that.

The "best" set-up would be to install a remote tranny filter, and an external tranny cooler and then plumb the trans temp sender into one of the extra ports on the filter adapter.

I put mine in the pan (there is enough clearance). If I had it to do over again, I would do it as Tom said.

Gage is great and very accurate.

My sender is in pan but not welded. Went to the hardware store and found some weird female threaded piece to put on the inside of the tranny pan threaded onto the sender. Then beat the threads a little so it won't come loose. Sandwiched both sides of the pan with stainless washers and Ultra Black, too, fyi... Then tightened the entire assembly. Done this 15 times r so on TH350's and 700r4, NEVER a leak/problem

I don't have the Autometer gauge, but the sender for my Isspro is 1/2"-20 UNF, the same size as a standard drain plug. I have both a drain plug and the sender in my pan.

I agree with Tom on this. When I put mine in (already have Autometer UltraLite Trans Temp) it should go inline on the return cooling line.

Autometer makes a trans manifold that is a bit overprice, but for the same price (around 25 bucks) you can install like Tom has, an external filter w/prevision for a sender.

If this is for the daily driver, no racing the pan is fine.

My two cents.
