flexplate replacement

I think I have some teeth missing on the ring gear on my flexplate becuase sometimes when I go to start it the starter will just make a loud grinding noise and I have to move the car abit to get it to work.
any way what I wanted to know was is there a light weight FLEXPLATE on the market.
I know there are heavyer ones for improved launches but i wanted to know if anyone knows of lighter ones for better acceleration??
thanx

If you did have teeth missing on the flexplate, I don't think moving the car a bit would help. It might be a problem with your starter.

They are pretty light to begin with. Most of the rotating weight is from the torque converter and the internal tranny parts.
I have a flexplate that ill sell for $20 plus shipping if you want. Its a OEM one from an 87 motor i bought in excellent condition.

I can't remember hearing of a light wieght one, but the after market flexplate are more for durability. Never heard that they give you a better launch, but certainly they can handle those forces without breaking.

The after market flexplates like the TCI (the one I have) are much thicker then the OEM. I've seen quite a few aftermarket plates very in thickness as a saleing point.

Most of the plates I've seen don't really have missing teeth, but more of hafe moon cut out of teeth from ware.

Good Luck,

Ron
