tcc problems

Its in a 87 monte ss. It will only unlock when the trans goes into first. Everything is still
computer controlled. AS soon as it shifts into second the tcc locks up.(after it gets up to
temp) and it wont unlock untill car is stopped and has gone into first it almost stalls out.
I know it should unlock when I hit the brakes but doesnt. have any ideas?

I have had a few problems with my 700r4 which drops in and out of lockup but I have an idea what it is.As for your problem,it sounds as if your lock up solenoid is stuck in lock up mode. This could be a couple of things.Check your wiring from the electrical terminal on the transmission and up into the engine bay.If the wires are bare and touching this will cause your problem,Ive had the same.If thats ok try replacing the lock up solenoid in the transmission, its very easy to do and not too expensive.Other than that maybe its the convertor(doubt it though ).If you want a bit of advice, ring Level 10 in Hamburg NJ 201-827-0900.They specialise in these transmissions and I have found them very helpfull.

I would agree, your converter stays locked both when the TCC shouldn't have power (which is swotched on the brakes) and when the ECM wouldn't command it (which supplies the ground.) So even if one side were bad, the other would still unlock the TCC. Sounds stuck...
