A guy has a '96 LT4 Vette ZF6 6-spd for sale. Question is: is it as easy to install as the T56? I can fabricate a tranny crossmember so thats no deal. Is it as strong as the T56? Work as good? I figured it would be just as good, but I thought I read somewhere that they were junk. Please help... BTW are they worth more or the same as a T56? THX Later

A ZF-6 is 10times better than a t-56, they are a ton stronger than a t-56 and are nice and heavy to prove it. Ive read that they can be put in about as easy as t-56. That would be the ideal trans for a serious 6speed build up

 

Do a seach on this board and you will find a not to long ago thread about this. ZBRA answered a few questions and has said what is a pain in the *** .

I don;t recall many details, but I do remember it was a great deal more difficult, and expensive, than a T56 swap.

There was a conversion kit that allowed you to use a T5 style clutch and bellhousing, I think that's what ZBRA did, however it's no longer made. Plus ZBRA used a tunnel mount torque arm (JESGter Torque Arm) since Vettes do not mount the torque arm to the tailshaft. Use the search button and look up ZBRA or ZF6 I know you'll find alot more information then I can remember off my head.

I know there is something funky about the bellhousing bolt pattern being different somehow. You will need to use a dual mass flywheel. The trans is strong but relatively heavy. It's higher ratios are conducive to lower axle ratios like a 3.73-4.10. I would throw in a t-56 for simplicities sake. The aftermarket totally supports the conversion.
