Tranny not working after install

Ok i just installed my transmission back into my 91 z 700R4 and it was out of the car for about 8 months. Now thats everythings back together and the car is running, when i put the car into gear it does nothin. But i did take it and put it on jack stands and the wheels turn slowly but no pressure. FLuid is good and i believe that i installed the torque converter correctly. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Tranny not working after install

Could be a number of things. I'm no transmission expert however there are a few things that could have been messed up during the install.
Trans filter and/or filter o-ring.
Torque convertor pump drive not fully engaged into pump housing. ( Was the convertor easily aligned and bolted to the flex plate or did you draw it in using the bolts? )
Was the trans rebuilt or modified during the time it was removed?

Re: Tranny not working after install

I didnt do anything with the filter. And as for the convertor it went in quite easy and no i didnt have to align the holes with the bolts. Also there was no modifying done to the tranny while it was out.

TV cable and adjustment?
Debris or dirt in the cooler lines ( from when the trans was out )
Does the condition exist in all gears?

Re: Tranny not working after install

Since you have the problem in all gears it would seem to me that it's something basic.
The TV cable connects the throttle positon at the TPI throttle body to the trans. The shift cable typically describes the shifter to trans cable ( for gear selection )
I know you've checked the obvious: fluid level ( hot and in park ), the TV cable ( not the shifter cable ) has a very precise adjustment, torque convertor fully engaged into the transmission pump housing,
It seems that you're not developing any fluid pressure. A plugged trans line could give you that problem although unlikely. ( disconnect the lines from the trans and blow out the lines and cooler with compressed air).
Beyond these suggestions, I'm at a loss.
Somehow I'm suspicious about the TV cable adjustment.

Re: Tranny not working after install

Are you sure you have the converter engauged on the pump all the way?You should spin the conveter while pushing it in and you will fell it fall in place and spin it some more and it will fully engauge. It could have dis-engauged during installation.

The TV cable has nothing to do with it moving in gear. That has more to do with the shifts/shiftpoints

Re: Tranny not working after install

Yea thats the thing i was thinking about because when i checked to cable yesturday it was fine and i said to myself that has nothing to do with it going into gear. I think i turned the convertor only 1 round before i put it back in so that could very well be the problem. Guess its coming back out...

Like I had asked earlier.
Don't forget the lock tight.
Here's hoping it's that simple.
Keep us posted.
