need help w/ 700-r4

What causes my trans not to shift from 2-3 when racing it ? it won't shift till I let it wind back down to around 3-3500 rpms. And what makes it downshift hard in D when coming to a stop ? The track's almost open and I need this fixed ! HELP

if you can't fu@k it or race it, it ain't worth havin' !

sounds like a problem with your TV cable.

I know it's not my TV cable. It only does it every 2 or 3 times I race it. But instead of switching to 3rd, it just keeps winding up in 2nd until i let it wind back down to about 3k rpms (and the other guy goes flyin' by)

sounds like a problem with your TV.

could also be a sticking shift valve in the valvebody.

early 80's 700R4 are know to be full of problems.
so there may be nothing you can do about it.

Hello. My name is F.C. It only does it while racing at full throttle while in the D position. What is working together in 2nd and 3rd gears are the forward clutches and the input sprag. We know it not the forward clutches because they are working together on all other gears except reverse, so its has to be in your input sprag. When checking a input sprag on the bench you can put it in a vise and see if its going to hold and most of the time it will hold but put that same sprag into a car and now you are moving weight, the sprag will not hold. Its either your sprag or your sprag race. If you do change out your sprag, go with the larger late sprag or even better go with a mechanical sprag. F.C.

Ok, now that I'm getting screwed out of $4K on my taxes, it's gonna take some time to get this fixed. I also need $2K in body work thanx to my G/F. Thanks for the input !

More than likely the problem is the 3-4 clutches are slipping. GM did not put enough cluch plates in the 3-4 clutch pack and this is a weak point. A good rebuilder will add additional clutches in the 3-4 pack to make it stronger.
