700R-4

Does anybody know how much horsepower the stock 700-r4 can handle. I'm planning on putting in a 383 and want to know if it will handle power. Also, does anybody know of any potential problems mating the new engine to the stock tranny? Thanks for any input!!

Depends on if the stock trans is used and how many miles. A rebuilt trans that is stock and is built RIGHT with a cooler and a good converter will take 400 HP with no problems. I know because My Z28 has 400HP which at one time has a stock 700R4 in it and it held up but finaly took a dump only after taking many of beating. I sell a Street/Strip 700R4 trans that will take up to 750 HP for 899.00 with all the goodies known to man installed plus deep pan but you MUST have a good converter. F.C.
