T56 assembly tip! Silver ball and spring shifting guide is a piece of cake!
Hey all,
I just finished my T56 rebuild. It came to be time to put in the spring and silver ball that runs in the guide for the shifting pattern. I came up with a trick that worked amazing, I had it install in 1-2 minutes.
I've uploaded a picture. You'll get the idea. If someone needs it explained let me know!
FYI, in the picture you'll see I put a washer on top of the ball. I ended up not needing that washer, but I had already taken the picture so it's shown with the washer.
Hope this helps someone!

Let me note also that I was able to do this without taking the casing apart... I had pushed the pin through because I thought I needed to dismantle it because of a shifting issue, then it turned out it was something in the shifter. You'll need to take the tail-end casing off though, but you can leave the main housing on. This was convenient for me because I had already sealed it with gasket maker.
What I did: I was able to take the 2 torx bolts out to wiggle the track pattern piece. If you do this and also remove the CAGS solenoid, you'll be able to rotate the piece that holds the ball and spring maximum to one side and shift the track pattern metal around and get it over the edge. You'll need to pull off a few gears from the mainshaft to get room but only pieces in the tail-end casing. Then you can remove the pattern piece and impliment the spring, ball, and zip tie. Then slide the track pattern piece of metal in and get the guide piece over the side edge the same way as you took it out. Once it's situated, snip the zip tie and pull it out.
This saved me quite a bit of time! maybe it can save somebody elses too...
