Best direct T5 replacement
Well my T5 finally went south and I'm considering my options. I don't want to revive the ol' T5 vs T56 debate (though somewhat relavant) Rather, what will directly replace/repair my tranny and be stronger. I'm running a warmed over L98 with an occaisional (up to) 200hp on the juice. I saw a while back a replacement gear set for the T5 which is a lot tougher but haven't been able to find it. Also, I think there are aftermarket units which will bolt in. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Rather than start a thread I'll jump onto this one.
I was deciding wether or not to build a 383 but I have the T-5 and know it is rated to 300lb-ft. If (or maybe I should say when)the tranny fails what actually fails? Is the housing going to crack or is it all internal gear failures? Just want to know if I need to replace the T-5 from the start or if I could wait until it blows and then have it re-built stronger afterwards.

Usually the tko or t56 is what people use to upgrade their t5. How much is the gforce t5? It doesn't list a price.
Dennis, the nice thing about replacing the tranny now is that you can get a few hundred $ for your T5 setup to help offset the cost of the upgrade.

Good point above regarding selling your T5 while it's still good.
I went with a TKO 600. Great tranny and worth the $3k if you can handle that. Only minor mods required to make it fit (that is if you're fabrication skills are good) Had to make spacers for the x-member, special shifter handle and a slight mod to the torque arm.

I'm going the TKO 600 route too... Heard too many bad things about GForce and their rebuilt T5's...
