need tranny help
I need help with my th 400 tranny
I does not work and any gear.
what do you think it is
p.s. i just got the th 400
because I just did a v8 swap in my v6 camaro

motor was a 2.8L v6 now it is
a 305 H.O. with
heads and cam, intake
manifold and crak are out of a 400 motor a th400 trany.

Engine: L92/LQ4 (both w/4" stroke)
Transmission: 4L80E/4L80E
Axle/Gears: 12B-3.73/9"-3.89
1st thought is, does it have enough fluid? If you filled it to the full mark w/o running, then started it, you emptied the pan. Check it with the engine running.
That's basic, and not an attempt to flame. If you know the fluid is where it should be, then perhaps you don't have any pressure. Get it started, undo a cooler line and see if you have any flow (may have to put it into gear - can't remember for sure about the TH400 right now). If no flow, then you've got an internal problem.
Did you change the filter before you put it in? Maybe the o-ring wasn't put on properly and you're sucking air.
Is the shifter hooked up properly? Again, basic, no flame intended, but need to cover all the bases.
Do you know for sure it operated before you bought it? If not, you may have been sold a core.
P.S.: "crank out of a 400"? (assume "crak" means "crank") Bored .030" over? 334...!

82 Berlinetta, orig V-6 car, now w/86 LG4/TH700R. 2.93 limited slip. Cat-back from '91 GTA, Accel HEI SuperCoil. AMSOIL syn lubes bumper-to-bumper. Daily driver, work-in-progress (LG4 w/LB9 block, ZZ3 cam and intake, TBD heads ported & polished, Hooker headers & y-pipe, 3" Catco cat).
57 Bel Air, my 1st car. 0.030 over 396, Weiand Action+, Edelbrock 1901 Q-Jet, Jacobs Omnipack, 1-3/4" headers, TH400 w/TCI Sat Night Special conv & Trans-Scat shift kit, 3.08 8.2" 10-bolt w/Powertrax, AMSOIL syn lubes bumper-to-bumper. Best 15.1 @ 5800' Bandimere. Daily driver while Camaro was being put together.
