T56 users..... clutch pedal height
T56 users..... clutch pedal height
I have been using a T56 now for several months. The clutch pedal is 2 or 3 inches higher than the brake pedal. Is there a way to get it lower, or is this something that I have to learn to live with. I've driven a few factory T56 cars and the pedals are even (brake and clutch. I'd like to get them closer or even if possible. Thanks, Rob.
I don't think you can really change the height. Not 3 inches atleast! You might have the wrong master/slave cylinder setup though. Apparently there are two designs, but no one seems to be sure of the differences between the two, not even the dealer. I'm thinking the difference is between the travel of the cylinders and you might have the design with the longer travel, but your trans is designed to use the shorter travel cylinders. If it annoys you, check out the other design. You can always return it.
Also, I'm not calling you stupid, but you put the master cylinder up against the outside of the firewall right? Because it is possible to put the cylinder on the interior side and have it travel through the mount from the inside. This would definitely cause a much higher pedal.

The master/slave unit supposedly came from the same car as the trans. I wasn't aware there were 2 different deigns on the master/ slave parts. That could be it. The guy I got the parts from had everything in a garage (barn) and it had been there for a while. I definately installed it right, the pedal is just higher than it should be. At one time, I put a shim (.40)under the flywheel, but it realy didn't help much. I even thought about shortening the pushrod or changing the mounting point to the pedal somehow to alter the height. I know the alignment angles between the pedal and pushrod need to be right in order for things to work smooth. Anyone else have an idea?

I felt mine was a bit high. After 2 months its totaly natural to me now. I dont think there is any adjustment. Maybe if you really want to do it, you can bend you pedal. I know my clutch seems fully dis-engaged 2 inches from the floor.
