1999 Camaro SS Rearend Swap?

I have a 9 bolt currently and found a good deal on this. The guy doesn't know too much about it. It is out of an automatic car. Disk brakes in the back. What will I need. My 9 bolt is also disk brake.

I was reading something about traction control... What is the gear ratio on it? Any info helps...

The traction control won't matter, since it's electronically controlled and your car doesn't have the computer for it.

IF you have 16 inch wheels, it's a direct bolt in, with the exception of having to rig up the E-brake cable - I say IF because it's an LS1 rear, and those LS1 rear disc brakes won't fit within a 15in wheel. Your stock factory wheels will however stick out on each side by about 1 1/2 inches outwards. Do a search for "4th gen rear" and you'll see some pics. You can use 4th gen wheels to get tucked back under the fenderwells, but then you'll have to use spacers in the front, as the 4th gen wheels won't stick out far enough, and rub on the suspension in turns.

If it's really out of a SS, I would assume it's a posi unit, but any assumption is a bad assumption. To know for sure, you'll have to pop the cover off the differential and look to see. Same with ratio - to really know you'll have to open it up to see - the numbers should be stamped on the gears, just divide one into the other for the ratio.

I have a rear end in my 1992 RS from a 2000 LS1 car - I happened into 3.42 gear ratio and those lovely large LS1 rear disc brakes. I use the stock 16 inch wheels, and some don't like it, but I don't mind the wheels sticking out a little.

What would I need to do about the brake lines?
----------
And I was reading the the Traction control used 4 lines or something like that...

Re: 1999 Camaro SS Rearend Swap?

Traction control is likely plumbed through the ABS modulator. Brakes work as normal but the modulator has the ability to release pressure if a brake locks up. Same goes for traction control. If one wheel spins, the modulator pulses pressure to that wheel to keep it from spinning.

Since your car doesn't have it, don't worry about it. It doesn't directly relate to the diff swap. There will probably be 2 flex lines running to the diff, one for each side. You'll have to join both sides together to make a single flex hose so that it can be connected to your car's rear brake line. The abs sensor should be in the diff housing. Just ignore it.

If there are 4 flex lines going to the diff, 2 per side, plug the extra ports on the calipers.

With the stock rear wheels, you WON'T have them sticking out....I wish people would stop spreading this false information!

This car, stock rear wheels....

Looks pretty flush to me....
