Bought a SLP take off and it is 26 spline(must be the "OEM" unit).
I need to know if I can retrofit this and 3.23 gears with no problems.
Comments?(VHT is getting expensive so are new Eagle GA,s on the right rear!)

Yes, the housings are the same, you will just need new axles (or out of the junkyard).

If you have rear discs and pull the axles out of a drum car you will need to have the o.d. turned down to fit inside the rotor.

Those two extra splines don't seem to be that much, but in actuality they add considerable strength. I know going from 28 to 31 splines adds something like 31% more strength. It's a shame you have to backtrack on this, but I only have 26 spliners and added an auburn pro-posi and richmonds w/ a girdle and never had a prob. Trannys seem to be the downfall of me, but then again I never ran anything stickier than a drag radial. True slicks would probably trash it. Then again the stock axle splines would probably chew off before anything. My friend has a weak kneed LG4 with 3.08 and open diff and blew the spider gears out first (doing a one-wheel spinnin' breakstand)

If you do change the axles I'd recommend at least changing the end seals if they are old. Nothing like gear lube slung all inside your wheel over a cheap part.

The take-off diff can *NOT* be 26 spline. Count them.

A SLP takeoff 26 spline carrier should bolt in. I was told it would bolt into my '91 10bolt in my GTA with no modifications. Whats going on here?

Since 1990, all GM f-body rear ends are 10-bolts with 28 spline axles. Since that posi was "taken off" a late model f-body, it has to be 28 spline axles. Or they sent you something else instead of one taken off a late model f-body. Or you're counting wrong.

SLP do NOT sell a 26 spline take-off posi unit. I bought a take off unit last week and i know its 28 spline. They even made sure i knew how many splines on the axle i would need.

SORRY guys! I meant 26 spline! I'm wanting one, but SLP said that '91's could have 26 or 28 spline axles. What the hell is going on?

Umm, they SHOULD be 28 spline by 91. Don't say that they could be, i am about to pick up a 91 rear and i need the axles to be 28 spline! Luckily the guy checked and it is.

Pull the axle to check.. Its not hard and its a sure fire way to find out.

The disk brake equipped rear I pulled from a '90 5.7 IROC was 28 spline.... and the axles look like tree trunks compared side by side with the old 26 spline ones.... The drum rears I have seen are 26 spline. So depends on the rear.
