Update on blown slave cylinders
Update on blown slave cylinders
I just finished installing the entire new hydraulic system. Just what I wanted to do. Yeah right......
The clutch pedal is rock solid. This with a factory bled system. So yesterday, the new slave cylinder I put in, and the bleeding process was correct. I have finally figured out what is happening........
The clutch slave cylinder piston is already at its maximum travel. This is due to the pressure plate being collapsed, or something. It is not springing back to normal position. So the clutch fork is extended away from the slave cylinder rod. Trying to push the clutch pedal, just pushes the piston right out the slave cylinder body and it blows up.
So, this means I have to do my tranny swap all over again! :-(
Remove everything down to the flywheel. This totally sucks............
218 miles on that clutch and the pressure plate fails. Everything worked flawless, and then nothing. Wow.......
I run into this at my job with parts and assemblies that cost in the thousands. It can happen to any part. I just don't like it when it happens to "my" stuff.........

You didn't notice this until after you swapped hydraulics? Personally I would of noticed it right off the bat not having brake fluid on my hands....
Intresting though....sorry man...I know what a PITA dropping the 5-speed is (not really hard, just not too enjoyable, especially if you accidently drop it on your head)

The ball stud is fine. The clutch fork is fine. The pressure plate fingers have failed in a "down" or applied position. The slave cylinder piston has no resitance and nowhere to go, but blow apart if the clutch pedal is depressed. Did I say "depressed"?
Sorry to hear it ended up being mechanical. Keep us up on what you find. I'll be very curious to hear what actually failed and why.

I'd be very interested in how the protologists solves the problem I'd give them with whatever failed...
