Ok i checked all my mounts etc and theyre good but when i shift, something from my trans back is popping/clunking whatever you want to callit, almost like my ring and pinion have too much backlash and its jumping too much

any ideas?

Re: popping noise during a shift?/

The most likely problem, to check first, is the mount at the rear of the trans. Try jacking up the rear of the trans, it should stay snug against the crossmember. If not, it's time for a mount from Energy Suspension, because theirs has an internal interlock hidden inside the polyurethane.

Re: popping noise during a shift?/

The torque arm bushing, while also rubber, and very near the trans mount, seldom fails.

Re: popping noise during a shift?/

the rear tran mount is good, replaced it a few months ago when it snapped on me, that mount it pretty distinctive when it goes because the shifter has a tendency to walk out of your hand

turns out its just slop in the diff, gotta another one im building right now so im just waiting it out

thanks for your help

Re: popping noise during a shift?/

well yeah, it does it every shift, when i get on it i dont notice it because my exhaust is too loud but when im just driving normally it does it.

slop in the diff being the backlash is set off becuase its a 19 year old car thats been abused and when i put it on the lift, i had my friend hold the tires in place while i tried to move the driveshaft by hand, its got a bit of slop, so when the drivetrain is in neutral the ring and pinion have excessive amount of space between the teeth, when i put power into the drivetrain it takes a bit more to travel and when the teeth contact it makes the thud noise
