tranny without 5th or reverse

I GOT A 84 Z-28 THAT I STORE EVERY WINTER IN MY GARAGE. WELL I PUT IT AWAY AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. I TOOK IT OUT FOR A RIDE AND NOW I DON'T HAVE 5TH GEAR OR REVERSE!!! I PUT IN A CENTERFORCE DUAL FRICTION CLUTCH. I HAVE A SHORT THROW RIPPER SHIFTER WHICH I CHECKED TO SEE IF IT IS WORKING PROPERLY. I EVEN PUT THE OLD SHIFTER BACK IN, BUT STILL NO 5TH OR REVERSE. ANY HELP YOU CAN GIVE IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

The gears could of possibly gotten out of line. As u change gears the 2 gears mesh up and move but it seems there not meshing(connecting to one one another). The other prob with t-5 tranny's is the 5 th gear is the weakest in the drivetrain. The dual friction clutch is too strong for your t-5. It does add somewhat stress to your tranny.

IS THERE ANY WAY TO FIX THIS PROBLEM??? HOW DO YOU CHECK FOR IT??? WHAT TRANNY WOULD YOU RECOMMEND?? I RUN A VERY STRONG 350- ABOUT 400 HORSES!! I UNDERSTAND THEY MESH BUT WHY WON'T IT DO INTO REVERSE??? I DON'T BELIEVE THAT 5TH AND REVERSE WOULD MESH WHEN YOU PUT IT IN REVERSE WOULD THEY????? I THOUGHT THAT 1ST AND REVERSE WOULD MESH. ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!! THANKS!! I CALL MY CAR "THE RED SHARK" BECAUSE IT'S THE HUNTER NOT THE HUNTED!!!!! IT'S RED TOO!!

Hrm. Is the shifter going to where the gear should be but nothing is happening or is it not even getting into normal position? The clutch is only too strong if you're doing clutch dumps, it wouldn't matter much for 5th unless you powershifted into it (WTF would some powershift into that gear anyhow?). Unless 1st gear clutch dumps annhilated the case or you had periods of high loading in 5th (also a death warrant on a high HP engine) I would rule out a stretched case. I am leaning towards a shiftfork problem but I need more info.

check the side of the trans there is a star(torx) bolt there If by some really really strang chance this bolt backed out some it could do this but, not likely. other wise the forks are probably bad or bent some where.
