Tranny fluid leaks!!
Tranny fluid leaks!!
i have a 85 camaro z28 with an automatic trasmission. It leaks alot but only if it sits in one spot for a long time!! If i drive it every 4th or 5th day it doesn't seem to leak but if it sits in one spot for 2 weeks or it leaks!Where could the leak be coming from????? also Some one told me that tranny leaks in camaro's are very common is this true???????

Leaks are no more common in camaros as any other car.
Since it takes awhile to leak, it's probably a spot high up on the trans. After sitting for a time, fluid slowly seeps out from above the valve body, and torque converter into the pan, raising the level. I doubt it would be the gasket, or it would always leak. Things to look for are dipstick tube grommet (a leak pass front) this leak will seep oil down and the wind will carry it back, gathering alot of dirt making it hard to see. Sometimes the seal is fine, but vibration cracks the dipstick tube.
Also check where the linkage goes into tranny (drivers side middle), the tcc plug (drivers back), the rear seal (driveshaft area) servo and governor o-rings.
If you come up empty handed, drop the tc cover and check your front seal (this is bad news) and at the very top of the trans there is a breather tube. Nothing should come out of there unless the trans is very overfilled or some other internal prob. Hope this helps. My bet is on the dipstick or the linkage seal, check these good.
Hope it helps.

Another tip: place a sheet of cardboard under the trans and make sure it doesn't blow away (if outside?) and either slide under and check it later, or slide under and make markings on the cardboard (outline where the pan is, ect. to give you a better idea.
I have the same car and the same problem. It will leak if it has been sitting hence the car is cold. When I drive it in the summer, frequently, it seems to stop leaking. This is what a tranny shop told me. They thought that the main seal was going bad which meant that when running the car, you heat up the tranny, the seal will expand stopping the leak. When the car cools and sits the seal contracts allowing fluid to leak. Just something I heard, hope it helps.
