H,im new im doing an engine swap into a third gen the engine i have is a 1974 Pontiac 455 not sure of the hp or torque. I also have a th400 tranny that was with the engine. But i was wonderin if the 83's tranny would hold up to all that torque from the 455? also the th400 is auto and the 83's tranny is manual 5 speed.

I'm sure it could hold up for a little while if you have a BOP bellhousing and drive lightly, but drive it hard and it'll break. GM used TH400's for good reason.

. If it was my project, I'd plan on a 200-4R trans.ok should i run the 5 speed and then later swap in the th400?

You'll need either an adapter kit or a special bellhousing to run the T5. Start with the TH400 and the Hurst torque arm mount.
how much do conversion kits cost?
