My T5 grinds while shifting at high RPMs? HELP NEED ADVICE PLZ!!!!
Hello everyone
This has probably been talked about before but when i searched i couldnt find a question asking something similar to mine or maybe i didnt search well enough. well anyways. my T5 grinds in to second sometimes into 3rd thats rare though and also grinds going to 4th. The grinding is when i get on the gas pretty good and my RPMs goes to around 4k to 5k when i go to second i feel and hear grinding and then it goes in well this also happens to 3rd sometimes not all the time, and when i go to fourth i feel the same as in goin to second. I hope you guys understood me. i would like to know wat causes this and how it can be repaired. I think my T5 is like about to die lol and needs a rebuild or a T56 swap. Hope getting some useful info.

Re: T 5 grinding
it could be the clutch/pressure plate not disengaging completely, or the trans is going. The t5 is not the strongest trans out there and flex a lot at high rpms, causing gear misalignment, grinding, and ultimately failure.

Re: T 5 grinding
Oh is there anyway i can check the clutch/pressure plate if their is any problems with it. I would say the tranny is about to die. Is it worth rebuilding the T5 or just go to a T56 swap or its not even worth putting a T56 on a 305 TBI, does a T56 even fit a 305 i believe it does since ppl have put it on a 350 which is basically same/similar block. Thanks 86TA for giving me some input on my grinding. Hope hearing some other info.

Re: T 5 grinding
so long as you use the clutch and dont beat on the trans, the t5 will work for a good long time behind a 305tbi.
The issue could also have to do with the hydraulics, they could be low on fluid or need bleeding.
How many miles are on the car? clutch? It may just be time for a overhaul.

255K! wow
there is a little white plastic reservoir, probably really dirty, by the brake booster on the firewall, you can check the level there. the top screws off, there is a rubber bladder in it, juist pull it out and check the fluid.
there is a very good chance that the trans is original, though i would assume the clutch has been replaced a few times. the trans is most likely worn from all the miles. If you can drive the car with no problems at lower rpm, than im sure you can put off a rebuild for a while, but a new clutch, flywheel, pressureplate, TO, and a trans rebuild should be on the shopping list if you are planning to keep the car.

oh wait lol i was wrong on mileage oops
it is 225K lol still high but yea.
i am gonna check on the fluid, if it needs any fluid is their a special fluid for that well not like special for it but like a certain type of fluid.
yea at lower rpms it is good no problems. yea dang a rebuild is a T5 rebuild expensive, i heard it isnt from other ppl when i was searching. Thanx for the helpful info. Hopefully its just low on fluid or something lol.

Re: T 5 grinding
i've never had a t5 rebuilt, but it cant be that expensive considering the only things to be replaced are syncros, probably some bearings, and make a shift fork or sometihng like that, cant be more that a grand, if that. Maybe get a aouple prices form local shops?
fluid is just brake fluid
