another rearend bit the dust!

Man the darn thing is going out again sound like the pinion bearing is shot. should I go through the trouble of finding a 9 bolt and gears or rebuild this 10 bolt with 3.73s my posi is still good but, I really get sick of the thing breaking on me and like the disk idea. but, I guess If I can destroy so many 10 bolts then the 9 bolt would go to but, just would take longer.

I remember reading that the concept firefox had a dana but, I don't know which one or what had to be done to make it fit.

use a 9 bolt from an S10 same size and much stronger. I have one in my 85, 3:73 and it tough as nails. cost 125$ from junk yard.

The one i got mine from was an 86 s10 blazer. i have an 85 sitting in the corner just in case my 82 blows a rear end. OS i assume that its 83-present. oh and it is drum. Just measure the lenght to make sure the size is right if you find one and if its from a junk yard dont tell them what your putting it in or they charge you more cause they think its a hot rod item.

Thanks I will start calling. I noticed the yards try to get you for everything they can just afew weeks ago I asked one for 1 window switch for my firebird he said that he wanted 10.00 for one and I would have to pull it and that they go for 20.00 at gm and are also on back order. I told him forget it because I work at the dealership. so I went to parts and ordered two and got them the next day for 14.00 total. man I know I get a deal but, it is only at cost and is next to nothing. I may have to show him the recipt and tell him to start seling things at a used price and I will buy stuff from him. his switch price is above new and they were not on back order.

1--S10's didn't get the 9 bolt.
2--The gears from an S10 will interchange, but the housing has no provision for a torque arm.
3--The s10 rears aren't any stronger either.

A ford 9 inch would be the strongest.
A GM 12 bolt modified to work in you car would work well. Most cost some $$.
