NEED HELP - non f-body fwd

This is my beater car, an 89 Olds Cuttlas Ciera with a 3.3 V6 and overdrive auto front wheel drive. I stopped at a stop sign and then I accelerated and it felt like it popped into neutral and the car will not go forward at all. All forward gears do not work but reverse still works. Fluid level is fine. The car has 108k miles on it. Does anybody know what could be the problem?

usualy that means an expensive rebuild parts for a fwd od cost about 400$ as much a a used transaxle and you would have to pull the trans to fix it. its probably a band or something poped in the valve body. if you step on the gas wot will it move at all?
if so i would check the valve body.

When I hit the gas the engine will rev and the car will slowly creep forward. It does the same thing in all gear positions( OD, D, 2, 1). I have this car a little over a year and several times before when I was driving after stopping I would hit the gas and the engine would rev like it was in neutral for 2 seconds and then slam into 1st. I don't know if this is related to the problem that I have. I have changed the fluid every 15k miles.

I dropped the pan and I did not see any metal chips or anything out of the ordinary. This is really strange.

Could be a couple of things, all mostly internal. I don't have a clutch and band application chart in front of me for the 4T60, so I can't give you any specific "possible causes", but chances are, its internal.

I took it to a shop and they tore it down and the band was broken and some other parts were worn out. Now I have to bend over!:O

Sounds to me like the forward cluches are gone, this is not exactly the easiest thing to fix but it is possible, best grab a haynes or chiltons...... Also on a good note your reverse cluck is okay, your pump is okay, and your lo rev cluch is okay.... That is a start.
