tranny&driveshaft problems

I own an 84 Z-28 with a 350 with a 5 speed. The two problems that I am having is: 1. When I go about 110 km/hour it starts to vibrate. I thought it was the driveshaft, so someone told me to rotate it and put a hose clamp on the driveshaft to see if it is unbalanced, I did that and it didn't seem to vibrate as much. Can someone please give me any more ideas, or tell me how much an aluminum driveshaft is, or what year of camero came with them.
Problem 2. I stored the car this winter. When I took it out for a ride, I found out I don't have reverse or 5th. I have a centerforce dual friction clutch stock tranny. Any advise would help!

Rita,

The alum shafts came on some 88-92 Camaros, TAs, GTAs, Firebirds, etc. Should you discover that the vibration stems from the drive shaft, please let me know as I sell these shafts with some regularity on this site. Please see my ad in the classified.

If your application is stock 350 and a stock T5, then I can't imagine that the shaft from these cars won't simply bolt in. The thirdgen alum shaft is 41 1/2 inches from center of front to center of rear U-joint.

The t5 is stock and the rear end is to but the 350 is from an older camaro with a few modifications. Here is a list of them modifications k&n air filter,600cfm holly with a two inch spacer, daulplane aluminum edelbrock intake, 202 heads energizer cam 216/216 duration.050 454 lift, march pully underdrive kit, 300+ spark plug wires, bosch spark plugs, hedman short style headers, and a hedman Y-pipe. The rest of the exhaust is 3 inch right to the tailpipes. Has a B&M ripper shifter and a dual friction centreforce clutch.

If your driveshaft wasn't damaged (dented) possibly the balance weight rusted and fell off. I mean if yours is in good shape why not have it rebalanced or get one out of a pull-it wrecking yard (easy to remove and cheap)

I was going to get the drive shaft rebalanced but it was going to cost too much money, I did go to a scrap yard. They sold me the wrong one and they said those cars didn't come with aluminum drive shafts. I will have to find one for a 5 speed because an automatic won't fit.

Automatics and manuals use the same shaft.

Apeiron is correct, the two are interchangeable. I have one in my 85 IROC, 5-speed.

Well, that should probably be T5's and 700R4's use the same shafts. I'm pretty sure the shafts for the TH350 and the TH200C are different, but neither of those shafts were available in aluminum.

All 700R4s, 4L60Es, T5s, and 93-97 T56s can use the thirdgen shaft. Apparently, the shafts won't fit TH350s 82-83, but will fit overdrive trannies 83-present. I've sold several to V6s, believe it or not. My experience is with 85 up (mine required a different-size rear U-joint to swap in.

I tried an automatic drive shaft from an 88 camaro and the end that goes in the tranny would not fit in my tranny. It was too big.Does it matter if it is a camaro or rs,or z28 will the drive shaft fit in either cars?

I can't imagine what the problem may be. As I mentioned before, there is no difference between auto and manual shafts (I have an alum shaft from an auto in my 85 IROC, LG4, T5 that mated to the tranny perfectly). As a matter of fact, I'm unsure of whether alum shafts were ever stock in manual trannies. In my experience, the type of car--RS, Z28, IROC--should make NO difference.

Driveshafts are interchangeable from any 1984-2002 (V8) F-Body.

The transmission yoke is 27 spline for 700R4, 4L60E, T-56, T-5 (even TH350), it's the same yoke for all of them.

James C what year of camaro did you get your aluminun drive shaft from. Where I live it is pretty hard to get camaro parts or they are really pricey
