Pukka,
In my opinion, a locker is for the track only or 4 wheel drive off road, they have no place on the street. A limited slip(posi) is what I highly recommend for street performance. I have the Auburn pro in mine, VERY nice and heavy duty as compared to stock, I doubt this thing will brake.
You may want to stop by the house since you are in Savannah and we can talk more, I did have a locker once but didn't drive it, returned it after more research(powertrax).

Powertrax is just as streetable as limited slip. You should have driven it. It's not a 'normal' locker that most people think of. The 'seasoned' mechanics tried to talk me out of the powertrax many times. However, after then drove my 82 with the locker, they changed their minds quickly. Don't talk **** about it until you drive it please. If you want to keep your current gears the powertrax is great. You don't have to remove the gears or carrier so you won't have to have the gears set-up by a pro. I got my powertrax when they first came out (5 or so years ago I think), and haven't had any trouble.

I've got some extra cash and was looking into replacing my stock diff with either one of these. SLP has the H/D Zexel-Torsen diff on sale for $300...the Powertrax performance locker goes for about $370. Any more opinions would be greatly appreciated...but please respect everyone else's thoughts...not trying to start a flame war.

You say that the powertrax is great if you want to keep your current gears. Does that mean if you want to get different gears you can't use the powertrax?

No, you can still use PowerTrax, but it will be more money. If you're going to change gears, you might as well get a different, cheaper, differential. SLP sells the Zexel take-offs for $99. I'm deciding that same question now. Since I'mchanging gears, I'm going to get a cheaper diff, and take it all out anyway.

The powertrax swap ends up more money when compared to a $99 slp swap if you already have 28 spline axles and want different gears. slp carrier requires 28 spline. powertrax still has better traction though.

I ordered the HD Torsen from SLP and gonna have em put in next week. it does require 28 splines though. it doesn't have any clutches either but it still works like a limited slip. i'm getting 3.73s put in also. like the others said, if you're gonna be running only at the track...then go with a locker, otherwise get a limited slip so you can turn corners easier.

National Drivetrain sells the Auburn Pro for $345, any spline, any year. The basic Auburn is even under $300.
I didn't do a gear swap because I had a 3.73 axle laying around. It was an open rear.

The powertrax turns corners just fine. It's not a track only item. Cliff92Z, is this your real-world experience with a powertrax in a third-gen, or are you thinking that all lockers are a track only item? It's not a typical locker. The people at powertrax should have thought up a different name to describe it. 'Locker' brings to mind harsh, loud cornering and not streetable. It's none of those. Ask some people that have a powertrax how they corner.

Is the Powertrax you are talking about the "Lock-Right" model or the "No slip traction system" model? I'm thinking about getting the Lock-Right because it is over 100 bucks cheaper, but the No-Slip sounds a lot better for cars.

I have the lock-right. The 'no-slip' is a new design powertrax came up with.

locker is a fully locked differential, when going straight. Limited slip limits the amount of torque difference between the rear wheels, still allowing slip.

I've had both in my car, and right now have a detroit locker in my ford 9 rear. They aren't as bad as people seem to think around turns. They're only really noisey and jumpy if you are going real slow. Like idleing around a turn. And the reason is simple. There is just not enough inertia to unlock the locker. However, I must say there is a big increase in straight line traction. The wheels hook up much stronger and you can get a better launch with less spin if you can get it to the ground. The lockers are not cheap though and this is one big downside. Either way, you're bound to have fun.
