I've installed some of these and probably the most simple thing that gets overlooked during the install is to hook up the manual valve before you install the new valve body or you have to pull the valve body back off or fumble with the shift linkage which isn't easy.

not a street car any more !!! how do you take care of the hole frome the tv cabel????since it dosent need it any more
it allso just got a b&m hole shot 3000, and to make a 700r4 work in a hi power app you need a good gear im running 4:11:1 i got a 1.68 60ft time but have not been abel to make a full pass as the original trany came apart (original trany 1983)no second no 4th it would go into second then go stait to 3rd and then slip realy bad in third for a best pass of 14.16,at 94 mph i cant wate to see what it will do with a good trans

Good luck getting the TC to work well. They're known for being highly in-efficient. (sorry man, most B&M and TCI stuff for 700r's is junk)
Plenty of guys keeping 700's together on steeper gears, they just have to be built right. - Sounds like your original one burned up the band. With a full manual vb and mostly race oriented I would reccomend the billet servos. Good alto or raybestos clutches/band, a hi-output pump slide spring if rpm is over 5500, dual cage(late model) sprag, beast reaction shell - hard to say about the rest w/o knowing a lot more about the combination.
Good luck with it.

the trany is a recent rebuild ! the trany is mid build ,it is 30 spline but no secondary valve body ,so as close as i can tell it is originaly 85-87 the guy i got it frome says it is a tci trans and only had about 10000mi on it ,the car it was in was a trans am ,late 80's i was told it was a gta and was wraped around a tree ,but i alls o got the rear (been gon for 3 years now ) but the rear was not a 9 bolt so i dont think it was a gta

If it wasn't a 9-bolt it wasn't likely a late 80's GTA. - Not sure about the manual vb to say whether or not nat having the aux vb is going to be an issue. W/o knowing for 100% certainty what parts are in it, it's hard to say whether or not it will last long. - If it's just a TCI rebuild/streetfighter you'll probably kill it within a season of racing.
If your rear is a stock take out with (would be 4.10, not 4.11 for a 7.5" 10-bolt)that low of gear, it will likely not take much power if you hook it up.
Sorry to "rain on your parade" so much. - like I said before, good luck with it.

Being aftermarket gears won't help it. It's still a tiny 7.5" ring gear, thus to go lower(numerically higher) than 3.73 requires a very small pinion gear. The smaller the pinion gear, the less the tooth contact area between the ring and pinion. The less the contact, the greater the stress. - It will break, it's just a matter of time. If you go a t-brake, it will break soon. Originally Posted by murd450

GM left us screwed on driveline. The aftermarket stepped-up, but it costs.

there is are some trans brake v.b.'s made for a 700r4 but they work differently than the th350.
of the th350's that you would want-it'd be the long one because the driveline could stay the same length. Use the long 9" TH350 not the 6". Note that the yolk would also be the same so that would be an easy swap with the 9" one.

ow i know it wil break i have gone through 3 sets of gears and and 2 carriers, it is starting to look like i need an aftermarket rear, they are just so dam exspesive
, and i read and artical on the 700r4 trans brake and it dident say allot of nice thing about it ,in one of the trials it actualy broke the housing just after it was engaged ( while wating on the yellows) and the only 700r4 trans brake i could find was $900 as aposed to the th350 witch was as low as $375
