2ND CABLE ON 82 AUTOMATIC, WHAT FOR?

What is the purpose of the 2nd cable from the shift linkage? does it lockout the tranny? What does it hook to? Mine is disconnected, I just put in a 200-R4 and had my linkage apart trying to change indicator for OD gear.

I assume you mean at the shifter. If so, that's to lock the shifter in park when the ignition is in the lock position - theft deterrent.

It's also a safety lock-out: It won't let you turn the key to off (and thus, locking the steering wheel from turning!) when the car is in gear.
