Muncie 4 spd in 84 Z28?

Well I originally have the T5 and that isnt gonna cut it. I recently got offered a muncie 4 spd with a centerforce clutch in it for 700$. I was wondering if there would be any problems installing this into my z28. He also says there isnt any miles on it so im really interested in this.

Don't do it. I ran a T-10 and Muncie M-21 for a few years in my 83 Z. The Muncie is about 4 inches shorter than the T-5, and I had to cut the floor plate to get the shifter to fit. I always hit my hand on the radio on the 2-3 shift.

Try and find an 88 and newer world class T5, it's worth it. I ran 4.10 gears in my Z, and with no overdrive, I couldn't hold a conversation with my passenger going down the freeway with a flowmaster.

You will also have to fabricate a new tranny crossmember to use the torque arm.

The WC is rated at 310 ft/lbs of torque, I think. What do you plan on using this car for?

Well, I was lookin at a 400 or 383(stroker) so... I dont know if that'll cut it either. Do you know of any other trannys that'll keep up at that kind of power? Manual that is.
thanks

First off what kind of muncie is it?
m20, m21, m22 ?
If its an m20 no way!
If its an m21 close or far gears?
If its an m22 oh yea its worth it? <-- brass gears. They have shifters that will work well with a muncie in a third gen kinda funkey shaped but nice and look just like your stock shifter but chrome. you will have to do some mods down below crossmember stuff but nothing major. 700$ is a very good price for a m21 or m22. m22's are the best ive got one stiting in my CarHole "Mo from the simpsons hehhe"
been offered 1500$ for it but im saving it for when my turbo 350 goes out.

Aren't all the M21's close-ratio?

I think the M21's are close ratio, and the M22's are 2.52 first gears, vs. 2.20 for the M21. As far as racing goes, the M21 was sweet. Gears were close together, but the tranny had some whine to it.

Hurst has all kinds of funny shaped shifter handles. Been there and done that also. I even took the longest shifter that they make, I think it was for a pickup truck, and bent it backward to make it fit. Not pretty.

The problem is the length of the tranny vs the tranny tunnel. Like I said, you will have to cut some of the metal out from under the ashtray to make the shifter fit. The shifter in my car sat around where the ashtray is. It's your call.
