10 Bolt buildup- some questions! PLEASE step inside!

Ok, here's the deal, gettin a 350, puts 430 out at the crank... motors been DYNOED at this.

i have an 86 firebird, and i want to upgrade the rear...

1- it has 26 spline axels, i plan on upgrading to the 28's

2- which posi?? slp has 2- the hd zexel, and the reg one- i plan on runnin 255 toyo's on the back, and prob not stickies on this rear. will the 75 buck oem posi from slp hold 400horse?

3- what brand gears? i ike richmonds, but hear people have trouble with em...

basically, i am on a budget for now, the motor swap is hurting, but i gotta do a bit for the rear till i have money to put a 9inch or a 12 bolt in.

thanx in advance guys!

Steve

I recommend a rear diff cover like this one, cheap insurance for a 10 bolt.

hey john- where can you get a cover like that and how much are they? is it called a rear end girdle? anyways, you think that the oem posi is gonna hold?? it will see plenty of street racing on reg radials, and some track time, possibly slicks.... i also plan on welding the axel tubes as well

If you run slicks with that much power, you will reduce the life of your diff big time.

I got it from Summit for about $130, it is a very nice piece and has held up to my stroker TPI for the past year now. I believe the stock posi will be fine, I orginally had a peg leg open rear and bought an Auburn pro posi as an upgrade. The girdle is insurance.

Well, it's at least 1/2" thick just like the rest of the rear housing so that it spreads the load evenly around the case. Second, it has thrust bolts that apply pressure againest the main bearing caps to prevent any flexing of the carrier, this prevents breakage inside.

The panhard bar and LCA's are powercoated red from Hotchkis, NOT my doing. The sway bar...it just seemed right with the other red around. You should see the front!

I'm just teasin' John. Since your car would run circles around mine, I have very little to rag you about.

But back to the topic:

I think the Richmond gears will be OK, you just have to make sure you break them in. If you don't, you can cause the gears to lose their heat treating and become weak.
