Need help with shifter console piece...

...for some reason, GM used a different shift insert console panel on the 91-92 Formulas with the automatic transmission than they did on all the other 3rd gens with consoles and automatics. Every part book I have looked in only shows one part number for the console insert piece for all those years. The B & M Console Megashifter will not fit in the 91-92 Formula console for this reason. I don't want to hack up the stock piece to make the shifter fit, I would rather replace the insert piece with one from a Trans Am. The part number I got from the dealer for this piece is 10159094. Is anyone aware of any internet sites I could go to to verify this is in fact correct part number for the TA insert panel.

Also, if someone with a TA could post a pic of this piece I would be eternally grateful...

TIA

It's not just '91 and '92. I had to hack open my '86 Firebird shift plate to get the Megashifter to fit. I used a cutting tip on a soldering iron. That trans am you find will probably have the same piece you do.

Well that part number is the correct one according to my Firebird/Trans Am Parts Illustrated Catalog. However, TomP is right, you're going to be hacking on it nonetheless. I did the same with my '88's console.

By the way, these things are probably ***** expensive so you may want to go by a boneyard and see if you can find a decent one to practice on first.

There's something I'm not understanding here...the majority of the people who I've seen post on this board regarding this installation have stated that the Megashifter bolted right in with no modifications required to the console whatsoever. How can it work for some people and not for others???

...inquiring minds want to know...
