Lost reverse after shift kit install. Please HELP!
Lost reverse after shift kit install. Please HELP!
I installed a B&M transpack in my 91 formula today and lost reverse. The trans is a 700r4 and it feels as though reverse is engaging but there is nothing there after that. All other forward gears work. The B&M tech line said that I installed the pressure regulator valve with all its components improperly or did not seat the c-clip all the way. I dropped the pan and took the whole thing out to make sure that it was in the right way. It was, and the c-clip was in correctly as well. Is there anything else that I could have screwed up? Anything in the valve body or anywhere else?? I am sure I did the PR valve right. What else can it be?? Can the o-ring on the filter cause problems if not seated all the way in? The B&M tech guys say that there is no other place where reverse can be lost aside from the pressure regulator. I need your help guys. Thanks!! Alex
it could be the "roller/pin" type mechanisim for your shift indicator. It's on one of the corners there (don't remember). it's got like one extra tooth & gap on there. You might have put the roller on the wrong one. Have someone row through the gears and make sure the roller has a tooth/gap to click on. hope this helps, I can't describe it too well.

The kit had me replace the spring in the pressure regulator assembly, replace springs in the 1-2 and 2-3 accumulators with spacers and within the valvebody itself I removed one spring and replaced one with a spacer. Checkball locations were altered and two checkballs were not used. All done according to the instructions. I have installed this kit before with great results but screwed something up this time. Please help!!! Thanks.

When you removed the spacerplate, to do the 3-4 accumulator spring, did you A)reinstall the small plate to the rear of the valvebody, and B) torque the three bolts that hold it on there to spec?
This plate forms the "other half" of the fluid passage for the lo-reverse clutch. If this plate is not there, or is not torqued to spec, Reverse fluid will just bleed off.

The reverse boost valve is in the tv boost line-up. Possibly you installed them upside down (The reverse boost valve and sleeve are the smaller parts right above the tv boost valve you replaced (under the snap-ring))
Sometimes they are hard to 'get all that stuff' back in there with the trans in the car and possibly it turned sideways on you. There's really nothing else that would cause this in the b&m kit unless.....
They give you spacers (bushings) to put over the accumulator pins. They are always too long and need to be sanded slightly so the piston legs don't stick out, causing the seperator plate to leak. Run a small straightedge over the case and make sure it clears the pistons on both sides. If i'm not mistaken the reverse passage runs in that area and maybe you have a massive leak if you didn't previously check this.
