t-5 behind a l98

I have been looking on the site and i only found what i already knew that it cant hold up to the torque of the 350 but what i want to know is how much would it be to beef the tranny up so that i could hold the power and aslo would it be more a better way to go instead of investing in a 6 speed t-56 cause i have found some fair prices for t-5s while the t-56 are still hard to find a a bit expensive
thanks for your help

if the t5 will work just fine, as long as you always use the clutch, and dont shift at high rpms, clutch dump at high rpms, use slicks ect.

the t56 would be a good choice, though it requires a bunch of conversion parts as well as the trans. Make sure you do your research on the t56 before you just in headfirst.

The T-5 is much maligned on the board; however, as 86 intimates, without abuse the trans will hold up--at least it has on my 350ci/330hp crate.

If you can afford it, better your chances for survival by using a World Class unit and installing an upgrade kit like the one from Hanlon Motorsports.

The T5 is a good transmission but it does have an inherent flaw. The main shaft is long and not supported enough by the case. There is nothing you can do about this but I had my Hanlon equipped T5 live a happy life behind my 400 + horsepower motor. I never used it on the strip but I didn't baby it either.

Re: t-5 behind a l98

my 2 cents, i would not put a dime into trying to beef up a t5. Save that money for the future t56
