bore size

I have a 3970010 from 78. It has 4 bolt mains. I was told that it is bored 030 over. How can i tell. I have the engine completely disassembled. I can get numbers off anything. Any advice would help. Thanks. I plan on sticking a 383 stroker kit in it. Just want to make sure that it is bored out. Also what do i have to grind down on the block for clearance. Thanks

Re: bore size

Measure the bore with an inside micrometer.

Most common areas requiring clearance are the oil pan rails and lower inner cylinder walls. Only way to really know is to dummy everything up and rotate the crank. If anything hits anywhere, it needs to be notched out.

Here's a good thread I had bookmarked once upon a time, for reference sake (gives a really good idea of what needs to be done):

Re: bore size

This thread is in the wrong forum.

Depending on the piston brand, if the engine is bored .030 over, there should be .030 stamped in the top of the piston.
