TCI Super Street Fighter 3600 VS Vigilante 3000 converter, what to get??

I pretty much see how everyone swears by vigilantes, and i can understand why, they work awesome. But alot of times i see people bashing other companies with out and technical comparisons between the products. Im very interested in buying the TCI 3600 Lockup converter they sell for $400 brand new. Compared to Vigilantes $675 price its a huge savings. can someone tell me why i should get the vigilante over the TCI?? And not just "you get what you pay for" actually examine the TCI unit and tell me why you think its not as good. Thanks

You will need to check the diameter of the TCI. I suspect it is the 12" lockup. If it is STAY AWAY from it. If it has a 3600 rpm stall rating (and it is a 12") it will be extremely slippery on the street. In otherwords you will have too give it a lot of throttle just to get it to move (not good). The vigilante will not take as much throttle (less slippery)to get it to move at light throttle openings. Hope This Helps!!!

they sell both a 12" and a 10" I have a 12" and wish I got the 10"

Save up and get the vigilante. You get 1 free stall change ($225) within the first 2 years if you change your combo.

Just as an example, I've got a 12" 2400 stall, and a friend has a 3000 stall vigilante, and his convertor is tighter feeling than mine. He has also pulled a 1.74 60 ft compared to my 1.84, and we are both on nittos.

Get the better convertor the first time. There is a reason that they cost what they do and they have proven themselves. Take a look at Yank and Pro-Torque also. Around the same prices, but applications differ.

The vigilante is stronger, tighter and will leave harder than the TCI. Plus if you sell it, you will get more of your money back than for the TCI because everyone knows it is a good convertor.

I am not familiar with the 10" lockup from TCI. But if it is anything like I have seen & heard about, it is an average TC. A 3600 stall 10" is a little loose but it depends on how thay achieve that stall. From personal experience, Terry at Precision Industries stays on top of every TC that is being built. The people at TCI come nowhere near the quality control of Precision Industries. Terry's TC's are custom built per application. TCI's are mass produced. I hear of many complaints from TCI's stuff and it not being resolved, not so from Terry. You get personal service from PI, better warranty, a hi-quality product, etc. So are they worth the extra money? What do you think.

I'll throw in here and say I've raced TCI all my life and I've never had a problem, granted until now it was all in Ford's running C-6's, but I was happy with the performance and the cost. I just put a TCI Break-Away 2500 Lock-Up in. It's an 11 inch converter and feels good, it doesn't take but a tap to get it moving, so it doesn't have excessive slippage. I believe the Vigilante is probably the better converter if it's custom tailored to your vehicle. Personally I don't think I would see a difference between the two in the way I drive so I opted for the TCI. I had a B&M in it, which I bought because I got a great deal on it. That great deal cost me another torque converter and a new transmission when it failed.

See the thing that i think misleads people is you guys arent giving any technical reasons on the Vigilante over the TCI. The TCI is a well known brand and i was looking for real reasons why the vigilante is going to outperform the TCI.

Vigilante is smaller and lighter. Vigilante has more torque multiplication while remaining tighter. The Vigilante has almost 3 times the TCC apply area. The Vigilante has a Billet front cover. The Vigilante comes standard with all the good stuff like anti-balooning plates.
