transmission problem? 700R4

I finally got my camaro looking good and running great. So my girl wanted to go for a ride. Of coarse I had to end the ride with a few donuts. Well when I drove off it never hit third gear. After 2nd gear it seems like it goes to neutral. It just revs up when I give it gas.

Your "new" one is probably remanned as well, and wouldn't be as good as a good rebuild.

Re: transmission problem? 700R4

When i swapped my super t-10 4spd for a 700r4 i just went to my favorite junkyard and grabbed a 700r4 out of
an '85 caprice(110,000 mi on it),put in a shift kit,used a
tci converter and installed it-130,000 mi later(did this in
'95)still going strong.
700r4 was upgraded ist in 1984 and again in 1987 when
a stronger sprag was installed
probably could just repair the problem with the tranny
instead of a full(expensive)rebuild.
BTW did you check the fluid-might have only sucked some
air when you did the donuts. I got my tranny for $100-
took it out myself.

Re: transmission problem? 700R4

you could probably just do a 3-4 clutch repair.
pull the trans., stand it up on a bucket, pull the pan-filter-aux tube if it has it from the pump(it should have it it's a 1991)-and t.c.c solenoid. Pull the pump bolts and pump(you can pry the pump out gently between the reverse input drum and the pump body), release the band anchor with a screwdriver or small pry bar. then grab the input shaft and pull out the band drum with input drum. the input drum houses the 3-4 clutches and they will probably be burnt. replace the clutches and steels-throw away the return springs(5 of them). NOTE:you should break down the input drum and replace the inner rubber-i'd have a shop do that for you because you need special tools to get the pistons back in without ripping the seals. when you get the drum back install all in reverse order with a new filter, pump gasket, pump o ring, and new torque converter seal, pan gasket-oil. you can do it danielson-wax on wax off..
